This is Dr.Mandar V. Bichu- your editor and web-master for this site. I am a paediatrician based in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates. In 1992, I completed my medical education (MBBS, Diploma in Child Health and MD in Paediatrics) from Mumbai University's Lokmanya Tilak Municipal Medical College situated in Mumbai's Sion area. In 1993, I moved to Sharjah in United Arab Emirates and started working in UAE Ministry Of Health's Kuwaiti Hospital. In 1999, I decided to start my private practice and since then I have been practising in Dr. Mandar Medical Clinic situated on Sharjah's Bank Street. Apart from my medical profession, I have also been actively involved in journalism and creative writing. Over the years, I have contributed numerous articles on medicine, movies and music in various leading publications and have published three Marathi books- Gaaye Lata Gaaye Lata, Doctorki and Suur Manaatale. Despite hundreds of books and web-sites about parenting and child-health, the commonest complaint I have come across from parents is about lack of proper information about these matters. The break-neck speed of today’s life and lack of emotional support to today’s parents thanks to disintegration of joint family structure, have led to a generalized lack of parental confidence. Add to that, the constantly expanding horizons of medical science that leave even the doctors bewildered with a flurry of facts and figures. In such a situation, parents need not only the reassuring pat on shoulders but also an easy yet informative source of reliable information to help them bring up their children in this modern age.

In the past few years, I had written many of these Parenting articles for leading U.A.E. newspapers like ‘Khaleej Times’ and ‘Gulf News’ and it was the positive readers’ response that really told me that I was on right track and encouraged me to undertake this website project. While creating this portal, I have tried to combine practicality with technicality as I feel both these qualities are necessary for modern parenting.

I strongly believe that providing love and security to children is the basic cornerstone of parenting. Today, I find a lot of parents striving for so-called ‘Perfect Parenting’, which for me is a myth. In fact, I have seen many a parent going to extreme lengths and putting pressure on themselves and their kids to achieve those imaginary, ideal, parenting standards, following some quirky guidelines from some quack-parenting books and web-sites. Most of the parenting is all about being practical. Common sense is perhaps the best parenting policy. Adding a bit of correct conceptual core of reliable scientific knowledge to that common sense, then makes for ideal parenting strategy in today’s times.

As an editor, I am extremely grateful to my seniors, colleagues and friends in the medical and educational fraternity, who have cooperated so wonderfully to offer their experienced expertise to the Parenting community through this portal.

If this web-portal in some way helps today’s parents in formulating their individualized parenting strategy, then I would say I have succeeded in my endeavor.
